Provide Spiritual Support
The Pastoral Care department at Children’s offers spiritual support respectful of the cultural and spiritual values of our diverse patient population. The department offers one-on-one counseling, traditional rites, prayers and sacred play with age-appropriate stories.
In addition, chaplains are trained to handle the sensitive spiritual and emotional issues that arise in caring for a sick child. The Pastoral Care department logs more than 90,000 contacts annually through patients, families and staff ministry.
“There’s nothing more sacred to anybody, regardless of whether they’re religious or not, than the life of a child. It is the innocence and uniqueness of the children's faith that transcends all of our denominational differences.” – Ron Somers-Clark, founder and retired director of Children's Pastoral Care department.
